Privacy Policy
Last updated October 15, 2026
This policy explains what information is collected when you visit SPICEography (spiceography.com, the “Site”), who collects it, how it is used, and the choices you have. The Site is owned and operated by Matt Bray (“we”, “us”). By using the Site you agree to this policy and to our Terms of Service.
The short version
- The Site has no accounts, comments, sign-up forms or shop. We do not ask you for your name, address or payment details.
- Our hosting provider, our analytics provider (Google Analytics) and our advertising partner (Raptive) collect information automatically when you visit, using cookies and similar technologies.
- Advertising on the Site may count as “selling” or “sharing” personal information, or as “targeted advertising”, under some U.S. state laws. You can opt out, and we honor Global Privacy Control signals.
- To ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, email contact@spiceography.com.
Information we collect
Information you give us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and to act on your message, such as making a correction or handling a privacy request.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, the following information may be collected by us or by the service providers named below:
- your IP address and the approximate location derived from it (country, region or city);
- browser type, device type, operating system, screen size and language;
- the pages you view, the page that referred you, the time and length of your visit, and how you interact with the page;
- cookie identifiers, advertising identifiers and similar online identifiers;
- your consent choices, where a consent tool is shown.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information, such as health, financial or government ID information, through the Site.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. The Site and its partners use cookies, pixels, local storage and similar technologies to keep the Site working, to measure traffic, to show and measure advertising, and to remember your consent choices. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do, the Site will still work, but ads may be less relevant and your consent choices may not be remembered.
How information is used
- to run, secure and protect the Site, including preventing abuse and attacks;
- to understand which pages are read and improve them;
- to show advertising, which pays for the Site, and to measure how ads perform;
- to reply to messages and act on correction and privacy requests;
- to comply with the law and enforce our Terms of Service.
Service providers
Hosting and security: Cloudflare
The Site is hosted and delivered by Cloudflare, Inc. Cloudflare processes your IP address and request information to deliver pages and to protect the Site from attacks and abuse. See the Cloudflare privacy policy.
Analytics: Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors use the Site: which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive and how long they stay. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as your IP address, device and browser details and the pages you visit. Google may use this information as described in its own policies. To learn more, see the Google Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting data about you with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Advertising
CMI Marketing, Inc., d/b/a Raptive (“Raptive”) is a service provider of this Site for the purposes of placing advertising on the Site, and Raptive will collect and use certain data for advertising purposes. To learn more about Raptive’s data usage, click here.
Raptive works with advertising partners who may also set cookies and collect information about your visit, which can be combined with information about your visits to other sites to show ads that are more relevant to you. You can learn more about interest-based advertising and opt out with participating companies through the Digital Advertising Alliance and the Network Advertising Initiative.
Sharing of information
We do not sell your name, email address or messages to anyone. Information is disclosed only:
- to the service providers described above, which collect it on the Site as described;
- when required by law, legal process or a government request, or to protect the rights, property or safety of the Site, its visitors or others;
- to a buyer or successor if the Site is sold or transferred, subject to this policy.
The use of cookies and identifiers by advertising partners may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, or “targeted advertising”, under some U.S. state privacy laws. The section below explains how to opt out.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of these rights:
- Know and access: to ask what personal information about you has been collected, the sources, the purposes, and the categories of parties it has been disclosed to, and to get a copy.
- Delete: to ask that personal information about you be deleted.
- Correct: to ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected.
- Opt out: to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, of targeted advertising, and of profiling.
- Withdraw consent: where processing is based on your consent, to withdraw it at any time.
- Object or restrict: in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority.
How to opt out
- Global Privacy Control: if your browser or extension sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, the Site treats it as a request to opt out of the sale and sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising for that browser.
- On the Site: where required, the Site shows a consent or “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” option provided by Raptive. You can use it to change your choices at any time.
- Browser settings: you can block or delete cookies, and use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on and the industry opt-out pages linked above.
The Site does not respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals, because there is no common standard for them; it does honor Global Privacy Control.
How to make a request
Email contact@spiceography.com and say which right you want to use. Because the Site has no accounts, we may ask for information needed to find data about you (for example, a cookie identifier) and to confirm the request is yours. Much of the data collected on the Site is held by Google and Raptive rather than by us; for that data we will pass your request on or tell you how to make it directly. We will respond within the time the law requires. You may use an authorized agent, and if we decline a request you may appeal by replying to our decision. We will not treat you differently for using any of these rights.
Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
For visitors in these regions, analytics and advertising cookies are used only with your consent, collected through the consent tool on the Site. We rely on our legitimate interests to deliver and secure the Site and to answer messages, and on legal obligation where the law requires us to keep or disclose information. Information may be processed in the United States and other countries, by providers that use recognized safeguards for international transfers.
How long information is kept
Emails are kept as long as needed to deal with them and for our records. Google Analytics data is kept according to the retention setting of our account, after which Google deletes it. Cloudflare, Google and Raptive keep the data they collect according to their own policies.
Children
The Site is a general-audience reference and is not directed to children under 13, or under 16 where local law sets that age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Security
The Site is served only over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and we use reasonable measures to protect the little information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Links to other sites
Pages on the Site link to their sources: regulators, research papers, reference works and other websites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which this policy does not cover.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
